0 Gravity Birthday Cake!

Ok, this one is a bit OTT. I know that less is more and all that but I don't care so wont apologise for it. Its my Dads birthday this weekend but both my parents are away so I am short of time and resources. To save time my brother made a chocolate sponge (hence why it is flat) so I am just going to show you how to decorate a round sponge cake with a 0 gravity effect. Just in-case you don't have a sponge cake recipe I will put a Mary Berry one below. I didn't have any skewers (it is December after all) so I used paper clips instead. It is important that this is constructed in a cool area to allow chocolate and buttercream to set.

1 sponge cake
1 straw
1 wooden skewer
Buttercream Icing or cream
1 large sharing bag and one individual bag of sweets
100g chocolate
other chosen decorations

I have made an ultimate chocolate malteser cake but you can make any sort you like.

Sandwich your cake with the filling your choice then put the other cake on top.

Place your skewer in the centre of the sandwiched cake and push it quite a long way down then push the straw on top of it and then about 2cm into the cake.

Cover the cake in your chosen topping, if covering the sides then do this now.

Melt the chocolate and allow to solidify a little then tier by tier dip the sweet into the chocolate then stick it to the straw.
NB: If using chocolate buttons overlap them a little and stick them to each other and the straw. If using other sweets try not to stack them on top of each other, try to make them triangles if possible.

Try to cover the actual cake with as many of thee sweets as possible as well to create a flowing feeling.

Decorate the cake with your chosen decorations then place the individual packet wrapper over the bent end of the straw to create a pouring effect.
